How does Lefebvre define rhythm?
For there to be rhythm, there must be repetition in a movement, but not just any repetition.
Everywhere where there is interaction between a place, a time and an expenditure of energy, there is rhythm.
Only a non-mechanical movement can have rhythm.
Linear designates any series of identical facts separated by long or short periods of time. Cyclical is perceived rather favourably, it originates from cosmos, in the nature. The linear is depicted only as monotonous, tiring and even intolerable.
City and rhythm
Our scale determines our location, our place in the space-time of the universe.
Cities given over to tourism who fiercely resist homogenization, linearity, rhythms of the other/ We must remember that the long predominance of commercial and cultural exchanges has produced a mixing of diverse populations, migrations, and cohabitations.
The windows, the doors, the streets, the facades, are measured according to a human scale. But is there a relationship between these physical flows of gestures and the culture which shows itself in the enormous noise of the junction?
