Future of the Project

In this attachment you can find the continuation of the project in the context of the general project.

The general project has a short-term and a long-term goal in terms of a correct environment for the implementation of the mini-grid and continuation of the use of the mini-grid. The short-term and long-term goals can be divided in our project’s and the general project’s goals after January 2017.


During the project knowledge exchange with the local villagers, institutions and or entrepreneurs, about electrical grids and payback time calculations will take place. The team of YTY will educate the local population about the advantages of the solar mini-grid, teach an entrepreneurial mindset and teach about the opportunities which can be used with the mini-grid in terms of income expanding.
In terms of the villagers, it can lead directly to more jobs and more wealth and indirectly to better access to health, sports, culture, insurance and general life improvements, since they will have more money to spend.
However, the knowledge exchange with the local villagers and entrepreneurs, about electrical grids and payback time calculation also have an important role in the long-term project, since they are vital for the solar mini-grid companies. A better running business can lead to higher incomes for the villagers and knowledge about solar mini-grids can lead to a better use of the available energy source. This can result in a continuous demand for electricity and can make the solar mini-grid economically viable for FuturaSun/Necor.

On the long term, the mini-grid will be maintained and repaired by the local partner Necor, thus creating a reliable service to customers. This can also create public trust in the project and help implementing the solar mini-grid in other Zambian areas.

Another useful contribution to create this public trust, creating more awareness and social capacity for solar mini-grids, is the video. After widespread use of the solar mini-grids it will also have a big sustainable and environmental impact, since solar energy is more ecological than the nowadays used fossil fueled energy sources in rural villages.
