Accommodate community

Texel’s tourism is all about beds and accommodation. An often-heard doubt about sustainable tourism is that the sector’s income is at risk. However, designs are available to make those more sustainable, in contact with the islanders, the landscape and the seasons. But all such designs have different impact, not only in their footprint but also in social aspects as community, safety, (dis)connectedness, freedom, flexibility etc. How may a sustainable tourist accommodation system function and be achieved? And what is its relation to self-sufficiency?
